The Coded Wire Tag dataset available through DART is the Coded Wire Tag Historic Database, Version 3.1, 1997, originally provided by Regional Mark Information System, Regional Mark Processing Center.
The following definitions are based on the CWT Data File Definition, Specification, & Validation, Regional Mark Processing Center (RMPC).Age: The age of the CWT fish at the time of the recovery based on the reported Brood Year and Recovery Year.
Brood Year (BrdY): The calendar year in which the majority of the run were spawned (fertilized). If more than one brood is present (i.e., wild tagging) then the dominant brood is used.
Count (Cnt): The number of recovery records for a particular year.
Estimated Number (EstNos): The estimated number of fish with a given tag code in the catch represented by this recovery, as estimated by the reporting agency.
Hatchery: The hatchery of the release when Rearing Type is "H." All location codes are standardized within a given State or Province, and coordinated by the State/Province.
Rearing Type (RT): Rearing type of the CWT released fish.
H -- Hatchery M -- Mixed hatchery & wild W -- Wild U -- UnknownRecovery Date (RecDate): The date for each recovery record of the specified Tag Code.
Recovery ID (RecID): The unique alphanumeric ID assigned to each recovery record by the recovery agency. This field is unique for a given Reporting Agency and Run Year.
Recovery Site (RecoverySite): The location of the recovery. All location codes are standardized within a given State or Province, and coordinated by the State/Province.
Recovery State (RecST): The state in which the coded wire tag was recovered.
AK -- Alaska FO -- Foreign OR -- Oregon BC -- British Columbia HS -- High Seas WA -- Washington CA -- California ID -- IdahoRecovery Year (RecY): The year in which the CWT was recovered (or catch year).
Release Date (Rel Date): The first and last date of the Release.
Release Date (Mo,Da): The release month and day based on the last date of the Release in this report.
Release Site (Rel Site): The location of the release. All location codes are standardized within a given State or Province, and coordinated by the State/Province.
Release State (ST): The state in which the coded wire tag was released. See Recovery State for abbreviations.
Release Type (Typ): The type of release for a given tag.
E -- Experimental O -- Other P -- Production K -- PSC key indicator stocks B -- Both experimental & production I -- Other index streamsRelease Weight (RelWt(gm)): The average weight in grams of the fish in the CWT release. A release can occur during many different stages of development.
emergent fry fed fry fingerling pre-smolt smolt adultRelease Year (RelYr): The year the coded wire tagged fish was released.
Run: Run of the CWT released fish.
Spr -- Spring Win -- Winter Sum -- Summer Hyb -- Hybrid Fal -- Fall (includes Type S Coho) Lnd -- Landlocked LFa -- Late Fall (includes Type N Coho and Upriver Bright Chinook)Species (Spec): Species of CWT released fish.
Chinook, Coho, Steelhead, Sockeye, Chum, Pink, Masu, CutthroatStock: The stock location of the release. All location codes are standardized within a given State or Province, and coordinated by the State/Province.
Tag Code (TagCode): The unique, alphanumeric tag code used for tagging a particular release of fish.
Tagged: The number of tagged fish in a release with CWT corrected for tag loss and mortality.
Untagged: The total representative fish in release without CWT or that shed tag. Total may include non-CWT fin marks, including the special case of Adipose only - no CWT marked steelhead.
Water Type (Wtr): The water type in which the coded wire tag was recovered.
