Description: The Susquehanna River Basin encompasses an area of 27,501 square miles of which 76 percent is in Pennsylvania, 23 percent in New York, and 1 percent in Maryland. Over 90 percent of the basin is underlain by sedimentary rock strata largely undisturbed in the Appalachian Plateua Province but convoluted and eroded in the valley and Ridge Province. Glacial deposits cover the northeastern quadrant of the basin. The principle rivers are the Susquehanna (444 miles), West Branch (228 miles), and Juniata (86 miles). Their combined seasonal flow from 1958 to 1965 ranged from 470,100 to 1,400, arverage 31,600 cfs.
