The Inseason Forecasts tool uses "real time" information about the current status of various Columbia Basin juvenile and adult salmon runs along with current hydrographic information to predict the future progress of the migrating fish. The Inseason Forecasts predictions are organized in the following categories:

Smolt Passage (PIT Tag) Smolt Passage (PIT Tag): Forecasts include arrival distributions, historical timing, transport, and survival for various Snake River yearling chinook, steelhead, subyearling chinook and sockeye stocks at Lower Granite, Little Goose, Lower Monumental, Ice Harbor, and McNary dams. Forecasts are based on PIT Tag detections at Lower Granite Dam.

Smolt Passage (Passage Index) Smolt Passage (Passage Index): Forecasts include arrival distributions and historical timing for combined stocks of yearling chinook, steelhead, subyearling chinook, sockeye, and coho at Rock Island, Lower Granite, McNary, John Day, and Bonneville dams. Forecasts are based on Passage Index data at each dam, individually.

Smolt Passage (Chelan) Smolt Passage (Chelan): Forecasts include arrival distributions and historical timing for yearling chinook, steelhead, subyearling chinook, and sockeye at Rocky Reach Dam. Forecasts are based on Chelan PUD passage counts at Rocky Reach Dam.

Forecasts are based on selected PIT Tag detections at McNary Dam.

Adult Passage Adult Passage: Forecasts include arrival distributions and total run size for spring and fall adult chinook at Bonneville Dam.
