| Tyee MS at Coal Creek
Tyee M.S. along with the Mobile Field Lab investigated the stream site at Coal Creek. Here they tested Coal Creek both chemically and biologically to assess its health. Coal Creek drains into a large City of Bellevue Sedimentation Drainage Pond. This drainage pond was created to help alleviate excess silt during salmon spawning. Tyee students found average pH levels of 7.0-7.5 and normal dissolved oxygen levels of 8-10 mg/l. Nitrate levels were trace 0.5 mg/l so hillside runoff didn't seem to be an issue. Some students even spotted some Coho salmon and Steelhead trout. In addition some benthic macroinvertebrates that were found included: mayfly and stonefly nymphs, rocky cased caddisfly larvae, diving beetles and some blood worms. A few sculpins were even sighted. Overall we concluded that Coal Creek was generally healthy. Monica Ravin-Mobile Field Lab Naturalist
