Single year in brackets indicidates the earliest year of data. Year range in brackets indicates the available data range for a non-active survey.
Most surveys are updated annually and do not conduct sampling year-round.

Set Forklength Type

Batch Forklengths Individual Forklengths

Batch forklength reports min, max, and average lengths (where available) of fish measured in sample.
Individual forklengths is a subset of Batch and only report individual fish measured in sample.

Data Set Notes:

SacPAS presents historical and current smelt sampling aggregated across numerous surveys based on the current EDSM strata boundaries to illustrate distribution and abundance. SacPAS aggregates multiple sampling efforts with publicly available data and methods, combining their results into a single table for generating displays and analysis.

The survey datasets were download from their various online sources and imported into the SacPAS database. Updates are acquired as they become available. EDSM and Salvage data are updated daily, DJFMP sampling are updated weekly, and other surveys are updated annually. Unique site identifiers for all sites across the surveys are conflated. Site IDs with multiple names or descriptions but the same location were standardized with multiple, nearby Lat-Lon values averaged to eliminate duplicate entries. YY-DD prefixes on EDSM station codes were removed. The unique sites were located on a map with positions compared to the strata boundaries of the EDSM dataset. Each unique site was assigned their appropriate EDSM stratum based on their mapped location. The evolving nature of EDSM strata over the years causes some confusion with appropriate assignment, especially in the Cache Slough and Deep Water Shipping Channel strata. As a result, most EDSM data sites retain their original strata designations except the EDSM risk/density strata are assigned by location. The SWP and CVP Salvage facilities in the South Delta are assigned their own stratum: "Salvage".
